There are six Crown land lots on the Sudbury Forest available for the public to harvest their own fuelwood for the duration of the 2005 to 2010 Forest Management Plan:

| Carlyle Twp | South side of Killarney Highway at the west end of Carlyle Lake |
| Delamere Twp | North of Alban on the Delamere Road |
| Lumsden Twp | Nelson Lake Road |
| Scadding Twp | Ashigami East Road |
| Trill Twp | Between Armstrong and Ministic Lakes on Chicago Mine Road |
Fuelwood permits are issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources at the McFarlane Lake office. Call Mike Bulova at MNR at 564-7865 to get a fuelwood permit. The standard permit is for 7.5 m3, or about 3 bush cords, and costs $30.00 (As of April 1, 2008). Larger permits are also available. Permits expire 60 days from date of issue or March 31 of any year, whichever comes first.
Some helpful information:
1 bush cord = 4 ft by 8 ft by 4 ft
1 face cord = 16 in by 8 ft by 4 ft
1 bush cord = 3 face cords
1 bush cord = 2.4 m3
